Mediator Profile: Cliff Bowers

I was introduced to the organization by a veteran mediator in 2017, near the

time of my retirement. I became exclusive to family mediation shortly after that

program was initiated. I greatly respect, appreciate and enjoy working with our

talented staff. Their counsel, dedication and humor are superior.

I’m a Green Bay native and the oldest of eight children. My wife, Jane, and I

have been married 52 years. We met while attending UW-Oshkosh. Two adult

children have provided three grandchildren and two grand-dogs.

My career took me to large companies in Fond du Lac, Chicago, Denver and

again Chicago, before we returned to the area in 1988. Jane was an RN, and

hospitals welcomed her wherever we landed.

My work is usually referred to as Corporate Communications. That can

encompass media, investor community and government relations as well as

executive, employee and customer communications. Core skill requirement in

almost all cases was writing. More recent employers you might recognize in this

community included Fort Howard, American Medical Security and Associated

Bank.

A wonderful aspect of my jobs is that they gave me entre’ to serve on a

number of local Boards of Directors. They have included The United Way, Green

Bay Chamber, Partners in Education, Encompass Childcare and others.

Over the years, I also invested considerable time in church and Scouting

leadership.

Currently, I am also a volunteer with Unity Hospice, doing companion care or

respite service each week.

Finally, after many personality profiles in the course of my career, I became

aware that one of my strongest character traits is the pursuit of “harmony”. With

that realization, I guessed at the outset that I would either be reasonably good at

mediation or possibly awful. After several years of challenging mediations, the jury

is still out.
